What the technician does
- Find the nest and name the species
Paper wasp, yellow jacket or hornet — that decides the method. Ground and wall nests get found by watching the flight line.
- Treat when the colony is home
Early morning or dusk, in a suit, when the whole colony is inside and least active.
- Take the nest down
Exposed nests are removed after treatment. A nest in a wall void is treated and, where it has to be, opened and cleared.
- Treat the spot, close the gap
Eaves, soffits and the usual nesting corners get a residual treatment and entry points get sealed.

Keep children and pets indoors or well clear. Don’t plug a hole with live wasps behind it — they chew out somewhere else, often on the inside of the wall.

Can I knock the nest down myself?
A small paper-wasp nest is sometimes handled with a store-bought spray at dusk. Yellow jacket and hornet nests are a different thing — hundreds defend them, and a ladder plus an angry colony is how people get hurt.
When are wasps at their worst?
Colonies build all summer and peak in late summer and early fall, which is when they’re most aggressive. A nest treated in spring is a small job.
Is it a wasp or a bee?
