Heads up. Don’t break the mud tubes open or pull the damaged wood about before the inspection. The technician needs to see live tubes to confirm activity and find the entry point.

Foundation, crawl space, attic, plumbing penetrations and every accessible wood, plus the damp conditions that let them in.
- Liquid soil treatment
A termiticide barrier in the soil around the foundation, which stops them entering and kills the ones passing through.
- Bait stations
Stations around the perimeter, monitored; workers take the bait back and the colony goes down over some weeks.
- Wood treatment or fumigation
Localised treatment of accessible wood; whole-structure fumigation where drywood termites are widespread.

Termites or flying ants?
Termites have straight antennae, a thick waist and four wings of equal length. Ants have bent antennae, a pinched waist and unequal wings. Mud tubes mean termites.
